This private reference site is not a government office. It cannot confirm custody or release, release a person, post bond, or obtain an official record. Contact the agency that holds the record.

Choose the Record Custodian

Ohio release records come from several systems. The proper contact depends on whether a county jail, ODRC institution, court, federal prison, or immigration facility held the person. For a state-prison chronology or public discharge material, use the ODRC search and Central Records contact route. Written ODRC requests may be directed to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, Attn: Central Records, P.O. Box 430, Columbus, OH 43216. County offices set their own contacts and hours, so use the directory rather than one statewide county address.

  • For a county-jail release, select the holding county in the County Directory and use its sheriff or records office.
  • For a release or discharge record, review the statewide request paths and then ask the responsible custodian.
  • For supervision after release, identify whether the matter belongs to the Adult Parole Authority or the sentencing court.
  • For a known jail or prison, locate its operator in the Facility Directory.
  • For a released state prisoner, begin with the ODRC offender search.
  • For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP Inmate Locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator System.
